Good morning folks!
How do you show appreciation? A simple “thank you” with a hand shake? A thank you note with a personal message? What about a gesture of success; being thankful for support by using it to it’s fullest extent.
In my life there have been several folks who guided and blazed the path for which fostered the person I have become. Many of which are family members, former teachers/coaches, colleagues, and even employers. One of which bestows the honor of being all the above.
My first experience in high school came in an academic competitive class called Acadec. Anyone who knew me at that age knew how little I thought about academics but my teacher, let’s call him Mr. S, brought the best out of my apathy beginning in that classroom. Four years of student/teacher mentoring transformed the PlaneOleWoodWorker into someone with a purpose. Then friendship between our families fostered a kindship while hundreds of miles separated us. After nine years of life away from our hometown, our family made the decision to back our bags and rebuild the relationships we cherished pre-college. Mr. S provided an opportunity to continue my career in mathematics education and has done an unbelievable job of catering to my very high standards.
How do you show appreciation? In the PlaneOleWoodShop there is only 1 answer: Build something worth keeping. After discussing various options with Mr.S we decided on a Lazy Susan. A functional piece which could display a entire panel of wood; not just any wood but Kentucky barn chestnut and red oak. Being a history buff Mr.S encouraged the idea of reclaiming wood with character and displaying its charm for all to see.
